Acquiring a French Visa

All students of non-European nationality must obtain a French student visa to study in France, even if they are already living in Europe. Here are the steps to follow.

Acquiring a French Visa - EM Strasbourg

1. Apply for a French Visa before Arrival in France

An online visa application service is available for students applying for a long-stay visa residing in a country where the visa application is outsourced. Students who do not live in a country where the visa application is outsourced must apply to the French consulate in their country.

2. Finalize the OFII Procedure after Arrival in France

The OFII (Office Français de l'Immigration et de l'Intégration) procedure is mandatory for non-European students who have been granted a long-stay visa and who have permission to work part-time (60%–70% of full time).

The International Relations Office of EM Strasbourg will guide you through the OFII procedure during Orientation Week.

Important information!
Students with a visa marked “Dispense temporaire de visa long séjour” are not concerned by the OFII procedure.

Validate Your Visa Online

Since 2019, students are no longer summoned to the OFII agency in Strasbourg but must instead validate their visa online via the website.
