Finding a Place to Stay - EM Strasbourg

1. Find a Guarantor

When applying to rent a place to live in France, a guarantor is often required. Your parents can act as guarantors.

If asking your parents is not an option, we recommend Visale, a free solution adapted to students.

What Is Visal?

A Visale rental deposit is an option for students who are looking to rent furnished or unfurnished accommodations from a private or public landlord. Visale increases students' chances of finding housing quickly and provides landlords with a guarantee that rent will be paid.

Important information!
Students who need a visa to come and study in France must have obtained a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS) for the student or talent category.

  • All tenants are liable for damage to property, including common areas of a building.
  • To purchase home insurance, students must open a French bank account.
  • Most home insurance policies also cover civil liability, which is also mandatory.
  • This insurance can be purchased at a French bank.

Helpful Advice

The city of Strasbourg is ranked among the top 5 university cities in France and hosts no less than 60,000 students. Due to a very high demand at the beginning of the school year, we always advise our students to start the housing search as soon as possible.
